Former 'Canes RB Duke Johnson to host first charity event

Duke Johnson hasn’t played a down in the NFL yet, but the former Hurricanes running back and his family are already focusing on the charity work he will do off the field.

Johnson, a third-round pick by the Cleveland Browns, is set to host the first event for his Duke Johnson Foundation with a Bowling for Kids Tournament on Tuesday at Strike 10 at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale.

The event, which begins at 7, will raise money not just for Johnson’s foundation, but for Young Women Facing their Future, a mentoring organization run by his mother, Cassandra Mitchell.
