‘Everybody’s fired up’ — Hurricanes hoping to pull off home upset over rival Seminoles

Mario Cristobal is no stranger to squaring up with Florida State.

He witnessed some of the rivalry game’s heights in the late 1980s and early 1990s. As a freshman, Cristobal won a national title — but the one blemish on that team’s record was a 24-10 loss to the Seminoles in Tallahassee. He never lost to FSU as a player again.

The tide turned when Cristobal joined Miami’s staff as a graduate assistant in 1998. As a GA and later as an assistant coach from 2004-2006, the Hurricanes went 2-4 against the Seminoles.

It didn't decide the 1992 edition, played in the Orange Bowl, but if there was a single Sun Sentinel photo that sums up the series, it may be this one of FSU's 'Shade Tree' Marvin Jones leveling Miami running back Larry Jones.
