Brad Kaaya steps into role as Hurricanes' most vocal, visible leader

Some saw it the very first night he pulled on a Miami jersey, stepped onto the field at Louisville last September and took the punishing hit that proved his introduction to college football.

Others saw it in January, when the Hurricanes returned from another bowl game loss. They were disappointed and disillusioned — until he spoke and assured his teammates things would be different, that he wasn't interested in the individual awards being bestowed on him unless his team could share in the glory.

And some saw it over the summer when he took charge on a darkened beach on Key Biscayne, encouraging his teammates through a grueling, pre-dawn military-style training program designed to build team unity and strengthen the Hurricanes' bond ahead of the new season.
