10 things we learned from the Miami Hurricanes’ 45-42 loss to North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Two weeks after their heartbreaking loss to Virginia to open conference play, the Miami Hurricanes sustained another agonizing defeat, this time to North Carolina after another comeback attempt fell short.

After trailing the Tar Heels by as many as 18 points in the second quarter and 14 in the third quarter, UM found itself down, 45-42, on a third-and-6 at UNC’s 16 with 16 seconds left in the game and the opportunity to tie or win the game.

But instead of a missed field goal attempt by freshman kicker Andy Borregales, it was UNC linebacker Cedric Gray intercepting UM quarterback Tyler Van Dyke with six seconds left in the game that ended the Hurricanes’ comeback bid and gave Miami (2-4, 0-2 ACC) its sixth consecutive loss to a Power Five program dating back to last season.
