10 things we learned from Miami Hurricanes’ 30-28 loss to Virginia

MIAMI GARDENS — The Miami Hurricanes hung in with Virginia for as long as they could Thursday night, but they didn’t get the final play they needed to go their way.

After marching down three-fourths of the field on the game’s final drive, UM set up freshman kicker Andy Borregales for a 33-yard field goal attempt to potentially win the game, but his attempt hit the left upright, with Miami (2-3, 0-1 ACC) dropping its conference opener to the Cavaliers.

It was the second time in Diaz’s three years as coach that the Hurricanes have dropped their conference opener.
