Stephen Ross needed only three words to get his point across, but in those few words, he said so much.
The Dolphins’ owner was asked Tuesday if quarterback Ryan Tannehill’s growth has been stunted because of coaching.
“I think so,” Ross said.
Clearly it was an indictment of former coach Joe Philbin and the way he and his offensive coordinators attempted to develop Tannehill in the four seasons since he was drafted. Last season was supposed to be Tannehill’s make-or-breakout year, and instead he regressed as the team slumped to 6-10.
Now Ross has hired QB guru Adam Gase as his new head coach, and Ross is hoping he no longer has to look back on Tannehill’s earliest NFL days when his offensive coordinator was Mike Sherman, who also coached him at Texas A&M.
