DAVIE — Miami Dolphins special teams and assistant head coach Darren Rizzi provided a passionate defense and vote of confidence for kicker Andrew Franks, who has had two fields goals blocked and one miss in 10 tries.
But Rizzi conceded Franks needs better elevation on short field goals.
“I think what happens with young kickers sometimes is you get in close and sometimes those guys tend to relax,” Rizzi said. “It’s like the golfer with the three-foot putt. If you relax a little bit, you’re going to lip it out; you’re going to miss that putt. If you don’t concentrate and focus in and block all the noise out, sometimes you kind of lose your technique.
