O’Neill lost his job because he refused to cooperate with the Ted Wells investigation in Bully-Gate. Partly at least. There was many reports that O’Neill was aware of the racial comments being made to members of the staff by Incognito. By the end of the season, O’Neill was without a job but was awarded the highest honor in the NFL for his position.
O’Neill won NFL Trainer of the Year at the end of the 2014 season despite the problems internally with the Dolphins. Today after a long wait, O’Neill found a job with Florida International University.
There were rumors about a lawsuit against the Dolphins by O’Neill but it’s uncertain where that ended.
