Former Dolphins majority owner Wayne Huizenga has died.

Huizenga bought the Miami Dolphins in 1994 from the Robbie family who had taken ownership after founder Joe Robbie passed away. Though his years with the Dolphins were trying at times, there was never a doubt that he did everything he could to bring a winning franchise to Miami.

Huizenga’s death was confirmed by his daughter but a reason was not given. He was 80 years old.

Huizenga made his fortunes on the shoulders of some major Fortune 500 companies including Waste Management, AutoNation, and Blockbuster Video. He was paramount in brining Major League Baseball and the NHL to Miami.
