Since the very first game between these two old AFL teams in 1966, the series between the Miami Dolphins and the Oakland/Los Angeles/Las Vegas Raiders, now in its 55th year, has been one of the most storied rivalries in the history of football.
The very first game between these two teams, was also the very first game for the fledgling Dolphin franchise, taking place on opening day of the 1966 season at the old Orange Bowl. The Dolphins’ Joe Auer returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown, but the Raiders would prevail by the score of 23-14.
