Report: Dolphins Have Fired Head Coach Joe Philbin

The Miami Dolphins have fired head coach Joe Philbin, according to the Miami Sun-Sentinel:

An earlier report from Rand Getlin of NFL Media said that the Dolphins would "shake up" their coaching staff this week if they were to lose to the Jets on Sunday in London, which they did by a score of 27-14.

One source cited in Getlin's report said that "everyone understands" that the coaches are to blame for Miami's struggles this year because they aren't putting the team in a position to win.

"We've been going out there, and practicing our (tails) off every day, but as players, we're tired of being embarrassed," said one member of the Dolphins in the report. "It isn't the players. We have all the talent in the world."

That report also says that "multiple sources inside and around the franchise indicate there is widespread frustration among the players with certain members of the coaching staff. A meaningful portion of that discontent stems from -- what some players believe to be -- flawed offensive and defensive play-calling."

Tight ends coach Dan Campbell will take over as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

The Dolphins were expected to compete for the AFC East title and a Super Bowl berth, but sit with a disappointing 1-3 record on the season. Philbin has a career record of 24-28 since taking over as Miami's head coach in 2012.
