MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Sophomore defensive back TJ Carter has been named to a pair of national watch lists. Carter was named to the Jim Thorpe Award list on Monday and on Tuesday, he was named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List.
The Paycom Jim Thorpe Award recognizes the best defensive back in college football and started the season with 35 players on it, including three from the American Athletic Conference. Carter was joined on that list by UCF's Kyle Gibson and Temple's Delvon Randall.
The Bronko Nagurski Trophy is awarded to the best defensive player in college football and the 2018 preseason watch list has 97 entries, including seven from the American Athletic Conference.
