HOUSTON, Texas – Houston starting pitcher Trey Cumbie tossed a complete game and held Memphis to just three hits as the Tigers lost 2-0 Friday night at Schroeder Park. The Tigers (8-14, 0-1 AAC) got solid pitching but were unable to overcome a two-run homer in the fourth.
Riley Cabral started for Memphis and pitched 5.1 innings, allowing just two runs on six hits. The only runs of the game came on a two-run homer by Jared Triolo in the fourth inning.
The Tigers came close to opening the scoring in the second inning. Alec Trela hammered a double to left-center field to start the inning and moved to third base with one out but Memphis could not drive him in.
