Men's golf is in fifth place after opening day at Palmetto Intercollegiate

AIKEN, S.C. Isaiah Jackson fired a 2-under 68 in the second round to lead the University of Memphis on the opening day of play Monday in the 22nd Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate.

As a team, Memphis shot 283-282 for 5-over 565 and is in fifth place entering Tuesday's final round. South Carolina is in the lead at 23-under 537, 17 strokes better than second-place Virginia, the event's defending champion. Nationally ranked Clemson, the nation's No. 13 team, is next at 1-over 561 followed by UAB, which is at 4-over 564.

At 1-under 139 after 36 holes at the Palmetto Golf Club, Jackson, a junior from Golden, Miss.
