Memphis Snags Series Opener 5-2 over Georgia Southern

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis jumped out to an early lead by virtue of Trent Turner's three-run home run in the first inning and Tigers' pitching held off Georgia Southern to claim a 5-2 win to open the series Friday night at FedExPark. The Tigers (6-2) have won five straight games and will go for a second consecutive series win Saturday at 2 p.m.

Alex Hicks made his first start of the season and pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing just two runs and striking out a career high eight batters. The sophomore right-hander was dominant at times, striking out five straight batters looking at one point.
