Memphis Slowed Down by Red Hot UCF Attack

ORLANDO, Fla. – In their second battle against the top team in the American Athletic Conference, the Memphis Tigers (12-15, 5-10) couldn't stop the vaunted offensive attack of the UCF Knights (21-6, 14-1), who won their 10 consecutive conference match and remained atop the AAC standings. UCF hit .361 as a team, the best mark of any team against the Tigers this season.

Set 1

  • The Tigers opened the match on a 5-1 run to take a match-high four point lead, but UCF countered with a 5-0 run to get back in front
  • Memphis last held the lead at 7-6, while the Knights took the lead for good 11-10
  • A 3-0 run for UCF put the Knights in front 20-14
  • Four different Tigers, Gigi Crescenzo, Autumn Hamilton, Elizabeth Orf, and Miaya Smith each had two blocks in the set
  • The first set was the only one to feature a lead change

Set 2

  • UCF took the lead 2-1 and led the rest of the way
  • A 4-1 spurt by the Knights put them in front 9-5
  • Memphis got back within a point at 10-9, but UCF rattled off three straight and never again led by fewer than four

Set 3

  • The Knights began the set on a 5-1 run, but Memphis eventually leveled the set 8-8 on a kill by Smith
  • UCF followed Smith's kill with six straight points with a Memphis timeout mixed in and led 14-8
  • 4-0 and 3-0 runs by the Knights pushed the lead to 22-11

  • Sabrina Bianco (25 assists, 9 digs) came one dig away from her fifth consecutive double-double
  • Elizabeth Orf led the team with four blocks, was tied for the team lead with seven kills, and hit a team-best .
