Memphis Shut Out 12-0 by Indiana State in Series Opener

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – In their first ever trip to Terre Haute, the Memphis Tigers (12-7) were deadlocked 0-0 with the Indiana State Sycamores (12-7) through 4.5 innings before the hometown team ran off 12 straight runs to shut out the Tigers 12-0.

How it happened:

  • Memphis threatened with two hits in each of the first two innings, but left runners on the corners in both frames
  • The Tigers didn't have a hit over the next seven innings and has just four more baserunners against a trio of Indiana State pitchers
  • Kendrick stranded runners at the corners in the bottom of the first and a man in scoring position in the third inning, as he kept the game scoreless through four frames
  • After a leadoff strikeout in the bottom of the fifth, four straight Sycamores reached base and scored off of Kendrick, as SS Jordan Shaffer's two-run triple gave Indiana State a 2-0 lead, while 3B Randall Diaz followed with a two-run home run that put the Sycamores ahead 4-0
  • Indiana State added two runs in the sixth inning against LHP Daniel Casto and led 6-0 after six innings
  • The Sycamores sent 10 men to the plate in a six-run eighth inning that put the game out of reach and made it 12-0, the eventual final

Notables:

  • 1B Chris Swanberg extended his hit streak to five games with a second inning base hit
  • With his first inning single, DH Jacob Compton extended his on-base streak to 14 games
  • SS Ben Brooks (0-4) failed to reach base for the first time in 19 games this season
