Memphis Falls to Pirates in Straight Sets

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Memphis Tigers (8-8, 1-3) weren't able to get much going on the road in a three-set defeat to the East Carolina Pirates (6-7, 2-2). East Carolina ran away with the first set, and while the Tigers stayed close in sets two and three, East Carolina made it a quick straight-set victory.

Set 1

  • Tied 2-2, East Carolina ran off 10 straight points to lead 12-2
  • The Tigers could only get as close at seven with a 3-0 run that made it 12-5
  • East Carolina scored the final three points to take the set

  • Neither side led by more than two until a 4-0 run by East Carolina put the Pirates in front 22-19
  • The run was part of an extended 7-2 Pirates run to end the set
