Memphis’ Early Lead Not Enough in Four-Set Loss to Wichita State

WICHITA, Kan. – After two wins last season on the home court of the Shockers, the Memphis Tigers (13-19, 6-14) took an early 1-0 set lead Friday before Wichita State (18-11, 13-7) rallied and took the next three sets to close out the 2021 season. The first and third sets were tight battles, with a combined 27 ties and 16 lead changes, while the second and fourth sets were dominated by the Shockers with no lead changes and just one tie.

  • Three straight kills by Autumn Hamilton were part of a 5-0 Memphis run that put the Tigers in front 9-6

  • Memphis and Wichita State exchanged early 4-0 runs
  • The Shockers fought off a set point and scored the final three points of the set

  • Wichita State opened the set on a 7-0 run and Memphis never got closer than four
  • The Shockers led by as many as 11 before they closed the set with three straight points to win by 13

  • Tabytha Toelke (14 kills, 10 digs) notched her seventh double-double of the season
  • In her second straight start, Loren Robertson (36 assists) finished the final weekend of the season with 83 assists across two matches
  • Autumn Hamilton recorded a career-high seven blocks and added 14 kills for her 11th double-digit kill performance of the season
