WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Memphis men's tennis swept its doubleheader action in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, as Ryan Peniston won his second-round match in singles play, while Peniston and partner Andrew Watson were victorious in the first round of the doubles tournament.
After defeating No. 55 Carlos Divar of Georgia Tech to open singles play, Peniston delivered another straight-set win on Thursday. The Great Britain native defeated No. 15 Constantin Schmitz of Tulane, 6-1, 6-4. The win gives Peniston a 3-1 mark against Schmitz in his collegiate career, including a three-set thriller to help Memphis defeat the Green Wave in dual match play earlier this season.
