Baseball drops Saturday decision to Xavier

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis baseball dropped a 3-1 decision to Xavier on Saturday afternoon at FedExPark, evening the opening weekend series.

Sunday's rubber game is slated for 1 p.m.

Offensively, junior Ben Brooks matched his career high with a three-hit day. His 3-for-4 effort was highlighted with a solo homer in the opening inning.

On the mound, junior Carson Stinnett made his Memphis debut. The right-hander threw 4 innings, allowing just two runs while registering six strikeouts as he was dealt the setback.

For the second consecutive day, Memphis struck first when Brooks connected on his second career home run in the bottom of the first inning.
