PROVIDENCE, R. I. – University of Memphis freshman forward was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week Monday for his performances in victories over East Carolina and Houston last week.
Achiuwa posted his 15th double-double of the season in a 77-73 win over ECU at FedExForum and followed with a gutty 10 points and six rebounds in a 60-59 upset of No. 22 Houston on Saturday, also at home.
In the win over ECU, Achiuwa scored 24 points – one off his career-high – and added 12 rebounds. Against Houston, he struggled from the field (1-of-9 shooting) but was aggressive in the paint.
