How the Grizzlies can keep the Mavericks chasing them in the West

After finishing the 2024-25 regular season with a 39-43 record, the Dallas Mavericks won their first play-in game as the 10th seed against the Sacramento Kings. The 48-win Memphis Grizzlies lost their first play-in game as the eighth seed against the Golden State Warriors to set up a clash between the divisional rivals for the final playoff spot.

Still reeling from the trading of Luka Doncic to the Lakers and the season-ending injury to Kyrie Irving, the Mavericks didn't have enough to overcome the Grizzlies' big three of Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Desmond Bane.
