Every weekend this summer presented an opportunity for Perry Hills to inch closer to Maryland’s starting quarterback job, so he would hop onto Interstate-495 and make the four-hour trek home to Pittsburgh to capitalize. Waiting there was his former high school quarterback coach at Central Catholic High School, Tony Colaizzi, who would put Hills through the wringer on Friday, Saturday and often Sunday mornings.

Maryland’s staff had suggested that Hills “was a little stiff,” possibly from a youth spent wrestling. So Colaizzi made Hills do ladder drills to loosen his hips.
