Northwestern basketball coach Chris Collins was impressed with Maryland watching the Terps on tape last week in preparation of their game Jan 2 in Evanston, Ill., and expected to face one of the best teams in the country.
After seeing the then fourth-ranked Terps in person during the course of Northwestern's 72-59 loss at Welsh-Ryan Arena, the former Duke assistant was surprised by one aspect of Maryland's performance.
"Their defense really stood out to me," Collins said Monday on the Big Ten coaches' teleconference. "You know what they have offensively with their firepower – they can score from all five positions.
