No. 8 Maryland field hockey (9-3) defeated Ohio State (6-4) 5-2 in Columbus on Friday afternoon, giving head coach Missy Meharg 499 career wins. Meharg would become the fourth Division I head coach to reach 500 wins.
The Terrapins scored their first goal less than one minute into the game off of a penalty corner. Senior captain Sarah Sprink scored her first of two goals on the day to give Maryland a 1-0 lead. The goal put Sprink one point shy of 100 career points.
Freshman Linnea Gonzales scored 10 minutes later off an assist by reigning Co-Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week Welma Luus.
