MM 9.22: Zack Steffen selected for Manchester City’s 2020-21 season opener

Former Maryland men’s soccer goalkeeper Zach Steffen has arrived in the prestigious English Premier League, as he was named one of seven substitutes for Manchester City’s season opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.

The 25-year-old originally signed with the Cityzens in last July, spending the previous season with Fortuna Düsseldorf of the Bundesliga before returning to Manchester ahead of the 2020-21 season.

Following the expiration of backup goalkeeper Claudio Bravo’s contract this past summer, Steffen now appears to be in line to be head coach Pep Guardiola’s second-choice keeper this season.
