Maryland baseball infielder Matthew Shaw was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. This is the first time the Boston native has won the honor and the fourth time this season a Terp has won the award.
Shaw went 5-for-13 at the plate in last weekend’s series at Michigan, including scoring the game-winning run in Sunday’s series-clinching win. He has been stellar for the Terps this season as he collected a .346 batting average, 54 hits, and 12 doubles.
Maryland is 26-15 on the season and has won seven of its last eight games as the postseason approaches.
