Maryland's Loh, Evans apologize to McNair's family, announce commission to look into Terps' football culture

University of Maryland president Wallace D. Loh and athletic director Damon Evans met with the parents of Jordan McNair on Tuesday morning in Baltimore to apologize for the circumstances leading to the football player’s death in June, university officials said at a news conference Tuesday. Then Loh and Evans announced the formation of a national commission looking into the Terps football team’s culture.

The news conference comes on the heels of three football staff members being put on administrative leave last week, including third-year coach DJ Durkin and strength and conditioning coach Rick Court.

The decision to put Durkin and the others on leave came after two explosive articles by ESPN detailing McNair’s struggles during a May 29 conditioning test as well as an allegedly toxic football culture at Maryland.
