Maryland women are in an unfamiliar position to start NCAA tournament

When the Maryland women’s basketball team lost three players unexpectedly to transfer last year, leaving behind a less-experienced, shorthanded roster, Coach Brenda Frese knew this season would be different. Now Frese knows the postseason will be different, as well.

For the first time in more than a decade, Maryland will not open the NCAA tournament at home. The selection committee placed the Terrapins as the No. 5 seed in the Kansas City Region when it unveiled the field of 64 on Monday.
