The fun-loving, youthful spirit that had defined Maryland earlier this winter was nowhere to be found Saturday night. The Terrapins looked worn out and weary in the late stages of an 83-69 loss to Iowa, which marked the program’s first three-game losing streak in five years. Just a week ago, Maryland traveled to Wisconsin with swagger, confident it could unseat the Badgers for a share of first place in the Big Ten. Even after that 11-point setback, Maryland Coach Mark Turgeon believed his team was mentally tough enough to bounce back at home against Minnesota. And even after that 14-point loss to the Gophers, in which Maryland gave up a season-high 89 points and combusted on both ends of the floor in the final seven minutes, he implored his team not to panic.
