Maryland opens NCAA Tournament with 3-1 win over Ole Miss

Maryland baseball opened the NCAA tournament with a 3-1 win over Ole Miss Friday night, as four Terrapins pitchers held the Rebels to just two hits.

Maryland (40-21), which was playing its first of two NCAA tournament game without suspended coach John Szefc, will meet the winner of Friday night’s matchup between top-seeded UCLA and Cal-State Bakersfield on Saturday.

The Terrapins used four consecutive hits in the first inning to build a quick 2-0 lead, courtesy of a pair of RBI doubles from Brandon Lowe and Kevin Martir. Maryland then extended its lead to 3-0 after adding another run in the fourth inning.
