Maryland men’s basketball earned the commitment of 3-star forward Aleks Alston, he confirmed Tuesday via Instagram.
The 6-foot-9 incoming freshman hails from Chicago and played high school basketball at Kentwood Academy. According to 247Sports Composite ranking, he was ranked the No. 104 overall recruit in the class of 2025, and the No. 1 player from the state of Illinois. He also held offers from Arizona State, Cal and Georgia.
In his junior year of high school, Alston averaged 13.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. He is now expected to compete for minutes in a frontcourt that features Pharrel Payne, Collin Metcalf, Elijah Saunders and Solomon Washington, among others.
