Another defensive gem combined with a hat trick by junior attackman Braden Erksa yielded what has become a most predictable outcome for the Maryland men’s lacrosse team this time of the year: a trip to the NCAA tournament’s Final Four.
The victim in Sunday afternoon’s 9-6 win was Georgetown, which led only briefly and went scoreless over nearly nine minutes to close the fourth quarter at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The announced crowd of 17,721 was a record for the NCAA quarterfinals.
Maryland (13-3) got goals from Erksa and fifth-year attackman Daniel Kelly in the final eight minutes to secure an 11th win in 12 NCAA tournament quarterfinals under Coach John Tillman.
