Maryland football to practice Monday, ‘optimistic’ to play Saturday after players test negative for coronavirus

For the first time since Nov. 11 when all activities were suspended after eight players tested positive for the coronavirus, the Maryland football team is scheduled to practice Monday afternoon.

According to a statement from the school, one individual tested positive since Nov. 19, but the confirmatory PCR test was negative. On Sunday, all football players underwent PCR testing with no positive results.

“The last two weeks have been trying for everyone associated with our football program, but I am proud of the resiliency and positive outlook Coach [Mike] Locksley and our team has had,” athletic director Damon Evans said in a statement.
