Maryland field hockey escapes with 2-1 win over Northwestern

Maryland field hockey narrowly escaped Northwestern, 2-1, thanks to a gritty second half of play on Friday to capture the Big Ten regular season championship.

Early pressure from the Wildcats, paired with a Maryland team that couldn’t capitalize on most of its chances, led to a close back-and-forth game until the Terrapins broke through late in the second half. Freshman Bibi Donraadt scored both goals, including the winner in the 68th minute.

Northwestern dialed up the pressure early, scoring just a minute and 33 seconds into the match. A number of Wildcats crashed in front of Sarah Holliday, and Maren Seidel was the one who poked the ball into the back of the net.
