Maryland Board of Public Works to consider $3.5 million settlement from UMD to family of late Terps football player Jordan McNair

The Maryland Board of Public Works will consider a $3.5 million settlement from the University of Maryland, College Park, to the family of Jordan McNair, the late Terps offensive lineman who died June 2018 after suffering heatstroke in practice.

The payment is listed on the agenda for the board’s upcoming meeting on Jan. 27. According to remarks in the agenda, the state’s flagship university and the Office of the Attorney General “recommend approval of the proposed settlement in full and final satisfaction of the Claimants’ claims as in the best interest of the State.”

Attorneys representing the family of McNair, a former McDonogh standout, sent a notice to state officials in August 2018 signaling that they might sue.
