Maryland men’s basketball’s swing through Las Vegas was more bust than boom.
Facing their second ranked opponent in as many nights, the Terps were no match for No. 8 Alabama, which overwhelmed them in many departments en route to a 105-72 rout in the teams’ third and final appearance Wednesday night at the Players Era Festival at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Much like Tuesday night’s 100-61 shellacking by No. 12 Gonzaga, Maryland’s hopes of pulling off an upset were extinguished early by the Crimson Tide (5-2), who scored the game’s first seven points, owned a 39-point advantage late in the second half, and went wire-to-wire to eclipse the century mark for their second game in a row.
