Maryland basketball is bringing back the ‘Midnight Mile’

Maryland men’s basketball is resurrecting an old tradition to celebrate its 100th season.

On the night of Oct. 15 and the morning of Oct. 16, the team announced Thursday it will run the “Midnight Mile” to honor Lefty Driesell’s induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and its 100th season.

The event will take place at the Jim Kehoe Track & Field Complex at 11:30 p.m., when the gates open for a meet-and-greet with the players. The mile run will begin just after midnight, nearly 47 years to the day after the first midnight run by Driesell in 1971 at then-Byrd Stadium on the first possible day to practice.
