Taylor Swift has a song on her third studio album Speak Now titled “Long Live.” It isn’t a very good song, at least by Taylor Swift standards. The song is about being named Prom Queen, and how beautiful (a fantasy) it was, and how she’d cherish this hypothetical moment forever. It’s a deliberately rosy retrospective on prom, one that ignores all the bad (prom sucks, yo) for this one perfect moment.
I’m an enormous fan of Taylor Swift, but I confess that I don’t listen to this song much, or even think about it very often.
