Former Maryland lacrosse coach Bud Beardmore dead at 76

As a goalkeeper for the Dulaney men’s lacrosse team in the early 1970s, Jake Reed’s training consisted of standing in the net and stopping a few lazily shot balls before practice began. That habit changed at his first practice at Maryland under coach Bud Beardmore.

“My first day at Maryland, the team took off for a run, and I was hanging around,” Reed recalled. “Coach Beardmore said, ‘What are you doing?’ I said, ‘I’m just going to get warmed up.’ He said, ‘You better catch up.’ So we did a lot of running in my first year, which was a shock for me and my body.
