Maryland senior attackman Eric Spanos made certain his final home game of the season also would be one of his most memorable. He scored a career-high six goals to spark the second-seeded Terrapins to a 13-5 win against Air Force in the first round of the NCAA men’s lacrosse tournament Sunday afternoon at SECU Stadium.
Spanos’s final strike, which beat Falcons goalie Jake Marek with just a sliver of space along the far pipe, punctuated an 8-0 run bridging the second and third quarters that allowed Maryland (12-3) to coast into the quarterfinals. Making their 22nd straight NCAA tournament appearance, the Terps will face Georgetown next Sunday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium with a trip to the Final Four at stake.
