No. 3 Maryland (15-3, 7-1 Big Ten) won its third straight Big Ten field hockey championship outright with a 4-2 win over visiting Rutgers (9-8, 2-6) on Saturday to close the regular season.

The victory gave the Terps the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament, which will be Thursday through next Sunday at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in College Park. They'll face eighth-seeded Rutgers at 3 p.m. Thursday. Penn State is the second seed, followed by Michigan and Northwestern.

Maryland broke a 1-1 tie 11 seconds into the second half Saturday, when Welma Luus scored off a pass from Sophie Pelzer.
