Big Ten title eludes Maryland men’s lacrosse, but loftier goals remain

The second-seeded Maryland men’s lacrosse team’s typically durable defense was anything but in the opening minutes of Saturday night’s Big Ten tournament championship game against No. 1 seed Ohio State. Those early breakdowns proved to be too much for the Terrapins to overcome during a 14-10 loss in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Maryland (11-3) gave up its most goals of the season in a failed bid to capture a fifth Big Ten tournament title and had a seven-game winning streak in the series snapped. The Terps lost to the Buckeyes (14-2) for the first time since 2018.

Four Maryland players scored twice, but Buckeyes goalie Caleb Fyock made 19 saves, smothering a handful of point-blank shots to prevent the Terps from gaining momentum after they fell behind 4-0 in the first five minutes.
