After Virginia rallied to beat Maryland in stunning fashion in the super regional on Friday evening in Charlottesville, Terrapins’ Coach John Szefc told his team they had made it to this point because of their toughness – the very quality that will determine whether Maryland can stave off elimination Saturday and keep the dream of reaching the College World Series alive for one more day.
To do so, the Terrapins will have to quickly forget about Friday’s unraveling, which likely will be a test all in itself. Maryland entered the eighth inning with a 3-0 lead and its sophomore ace, Mike Shawaryn, on the mound.
