Three-star cornerback Erwin Byrd of Powder Springs, Georgia, has committed to Maryland after an official visit over the weekend.
The 6’0, 175-pound Byrd joins three other cornerback commitments in the Class of 2019, but his skill set shows an ability to play multiple roles. With quite the knack for zone coverage and ball hawking, Byrd could easily transition to a safety position. Byrd could also follow in the steps of Will Likely and take snaps on both sides of the ball, as he played wide receiver for two seasons in high school before making a switch to defensive back as a junior.
