WVU thumps Marshall 86-68

Jevon Carter scored 15 points and Daxter Miles Jr. had 14 as West Virginia took advantage of a mistake-prone Marshall second half Thursday to capture its fifth Capital Classic in a row, 86-68 at the Civic Center.

The 20th-ranked Mountaineers (9-1) took advantage of a stretch where the Thundering Herd (3-7) failed to scored on 11 straight possessions. That allowed the Mountaineers to go on a 16-1 game-breaking run.

The second-half domination went beyond the 51-36 scoring margin. The Herd hit just 7 of 27 shots from the floor and missed all 13 3-point tries. MU also committed 11 of its 19 turnovers, leading to 16 WVU points.
