HUNTINGTON — For the time being, Marshall’s Kaare Vedvik is “The Lone Punter.”
Cue up the appropriate theme music. The Norway native won’t take the Joan C. Edwards Stadium field in western get-up, only a green No. 30. But he has a mission on several fronts.
First and foremost, he has to beat out invisible competition. Sure, MU coaches are bringing over kicker Nick Smith to get some punting in, but Smith has his plate full trying to hang on to his field-goal job.
Here’s the thing: By August camp, Vedvik will have company. There’s a wide world of kickers and punters eager to walk on to a Division I campus and try to beat the odds.
