HUNTINGTON — College basketball is decorated by different zone designs, from John Wooden’s vaunted UCLA 2-2-1 zone press to John Chaney’s matchup zone during his days at Temple. There are Jim Boeheim’s standard 2-3 at Syracuse and the 1-3-1 that John Beilein has relied on at several stops. And at Marshall, the most productive zone this season is the one that brought James Kelly to the Herd for a different kind of one-and-done.

“No, James coming to Marshall didn’t surprise me,” said his junior college and Herd teammate, guard Justin Edmonds. “He likes his comfort zone.
