HUNTINGTON — After about six-plus minutes of the game – Marshall hosting NAIA WVU Tech three days before Christmas in a noon matinee – there were only two things still in doubt: would everyone get what they wanted from Santa on Friday and at what point in the game senior Leah Scott would become the 19th player in MU women’s basketball history to top 1,000 points. Beating Tech was a foregone conclusion minutes into the contest, as Marshall improved to 11-0 all-time against Tech with a 44-point win.
Scott surpassed 1,000 points at the 7:37 mark of the third quarter, as noted on the “Scott-Scoring-Meter” kept during the game in the MU Pep Band, and she led the Herd in scoring in this game as she finished with a team-high 17 as the Marshall (9-1) destroyed the WVU Tech Golden Bears, 83-39, at the Cam Henderson Center Tuesday (see MU women’s 1,000-point club list, at the end of this story).
